About Us

Our mission stems from providing access to quality early learning environments and family support services for high risk populations as the Early Head Start and Head Start provider for Travis County. Services include early education, health, dental, nutrition, mental health and special education for children with disabilities. Child Inc gives priority to Central Texas families that have incomes below the federal poverty guidelines with the goal of providing a positive learning environment for young children and addressing their comprehensive service needs.  Priority is also given to children who are homeless or in the child protective service system with 10% of enrollment reserved for children with special needs.

What does Head Start do?

Services are categorized into five major service components that all children receive: Child Health and Developmental Services, Child Health and Safety, Child Nutrition, Child Mental Health and Disability, and Education and Early Childhood Development.

Early Head Start (EHS) to 3-year-olds.

Designed to serve pregnant women, infants, toddlers and parents.   EHS provides education services for young children in developmentally appropriate settings, with structured activities and offers familial resources. To  accommodate the unique needs of our families, EHS offers both center-based and home-based environments. Our infants and toddlers receive all of the Head Start comprehensive services, such as early education, health, dental, nutrition, mental health, social services, parent training, and parent involvement.

Head Start serving 3 to 5-year-olds

Head Start is a comprehensive early education and child development program for families who meet the federal poverty guidelines. Children, ages 3 – 5, receive all comprehensive services including education, health, dental, nutrition, mental health and special education for children with disabilities.  Services are provided through full-day center placement for families who are employed, in school or in a training program.  Education is about preparing each child to be successful in their next school experience.  We provide each child with a learning environment that promotes school readiness by individualizing educational instruction according to their strengths and needs to ensure each child grows physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally.

Summer Learning Program

(funded in part by the City of Austin)
Provides a safe environment where children of eligible working parents can maintain the educational gains made during the school year.  The focus is on promoting kindergarten readiness, healthy eating and exercise habits.  Children are provided with a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack each day.  Parent involvement is strongly encouraged.

Parent, Family & Community Engagement

Parents’ positive involvement in the early childhood stage can help in their child’s cognitive development as well as school readiness and achievement. The influence of parents in young children’s lives is much greater than early childhood schoolteachers and programs.  Our extensive parental engagement program provides parents and families with the necessary resources to assist them to effectively perform as their children’s first teacher.
